About CanineCalc
Last updated: October 2026
CanineCalc is a free resource for dog owners who want clear, honest answers about their dogs — how big they’ll get, what they need to eat, and how to plan their care. Every page pairs an interactive calculator with a plain-English guide, so you get both the number and the understanding behind it.
Hi, I’m Jennifer
I run CanineCalc and write every guide you’ll find here. I’m a lifelong dog owner who got tired of conflicting advice — one site says one thing, another says the opposite, and none of them show their work.
So I built the site I wished existed: real calculators with transparent methods, guides grounded in veterinary research and official breed guidance, and honest statements about what an estimate can and can’t tell you.
How our calculators work
Each CanineCalc tool shows its method openly. Our puppy size calculator, for example, estimates adult weight from your puppy’s current age, weight, and size category — and gives you a planning range, not a single pretend-exact number. Where published research informs the method (such as the evidence-based canine growth standards from Salt et al., PLOS ONE 2017), we cite it.
An estimate is a starting point, not a promise — especially for mixed-breed dogs. We say that on every tool, because it’s true.
Our editorial standards
- No invented credentials. I’m a dedicated researcher and dog owner, not a veterinarian. Nothing here claims otherwise.
- Sources cited. Veterinary research, the American Kennel Club, and the American Animal Hospital Association — named, not vague “experts say.”
- Estimates labeled as estimates. Ranges where ranges are honest; caveats where caveats apply.
- Vet referrals. For anything involving your individual dog’s health, growth concerns, or nutrition changes, we point you to your veterinarian. A calculator can’t examine your dog.
What you’ll find here
- Free calculators — puppy size, daily calories, dog age, crate size, and food cost. No accounts, no paywalls.
- Care guides — vet-reviewed references explaining the why behind the numbers.
- Honest limitations — every method has them, and we print ours.
Thanks for trusting CanineCalc with your dog questions. If a tool helped you, share it with a fellow dog owner — that’s how we grow.
